Well today I got my first go at actually filming something on a Bolex camera and it was so fun! It took so long to set up each shot though because you had to adjust the eye piece for each person, take a light reading of the subject and set the aperture accordingly, measure their distance from the camera and set the focus and frame the subject all before you could shoot. It made you feel very proffesional though. Next week we are doing light safety, which I assume means that we get to play with all the lights (safely).

Tonight I am going to the Melbourne International Film Festival (MIFF) to see "Thank you for Smoking". So that should be fun.

Also working on a bit of a secret project with my friend to pitch to Deakin TV but I will let you know more about that later on.

Have to go and pick up a camera because I am already drowning in assignments!

I have now offically passed my first semester of Uni! I even managed to get a credit for Art and Cultural Production (otherwise known as the worst subject in the world!) And good marks in all my other subjects.

Also I have managed to survive my first week of classes, and to celebrate eaten my first lot of free sausages for the semester! Most of exciting part of those classes was my sound, light and motion workshop where I got to play with actually film cameras. Yes FILM cameras, not VIDEO. Actually film that comes on a roll, and can't be exposed to too much light, and has to be sent off to be processed. I'm not sure if non-film students will understand how exciting this is, but trust me, it is VERY exciting! They look just like the ones you see people carrying around in really old movies too, which is probablly because they were made back when those movies were being made, but they are still good. And they aren't electric which means to make them work you actually have to wind them up like an old watch, which is kind of funny, but also means they are really delicate. Straight after our lecturer told us this, he dropped one on the ground and looked very scared. So I'm all excited about shooting on black and white film, with no sound. Yeah!

Well I have to say even due to my earlier comments that holidays are a total let down, I have to say I have recently had a blast! Seeing my friends in Tassie was great. It is so nice to know that they haven't forgotten me, and no matter how long its been since I've seen them, it feels like only yesterday. So thanks everyone in Tassie for showing me such a great time! Also thank you to Taco's for making such yummy mango margaritas!

Now I am going to go do something very melbourne and go to see the 50 years of Television at ACMI.

Hopefully I will also get my results today or tomorrow and pass all my subjects, especially Art and Cultural Production!
